Insuring Ontario's Trails Survey

The Insuring Ontario's Trails Survey was designed and implemented by the Ontario Trails Council with analytical support for the survey provided by researchers affiliated with the Trail Research Hub and he University of Waterloo's Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies.

Project Summary

The Ontario Trails Council (OTC) - Conseil des Sentiers de l'Ontario – is a charity that promotes the development, preservation, management and use of recreational trails in Ontario.

In response to issues presented by members of the Ontario Trails Council’s Subcommittee on Trail Tourism in early 2021, the Ontario Trails Council designed and implemented the Insuring Ontario’s Trails Survey in partnership with the Trail Research Hub who provided analytical support for the survey.

The Insuring Ontario's Trails Survey ran from March 1st, 2021 through to April 15th, 2021, and was open to trail-based organizations, including but not limited to not-for-profit, for-profit, government and non-government organizations, trail-user groups and trail operators, in the province of Ontario.

This survey aimed to better understand the current insurance acquisition and insurance policy parameter challenges being faced by trail organizations in Ontario as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing policy and practice changes within the insurance sector observed over recent years.
